Name: Lilia Vanrouge Door: Door Pass - Dominant Canon: Twisted Wonderland Canon Point: Book 7 Ch 37, Right after Malleus puts everyone to sleep Age: ??? (approximately 700) Appearance: here History: Lilia’s history is still not completely known, but I have a basic history written here of what I know and what is known in canon. I’m also still a little behind so… I’m doing my best lol. His wiki pages are very lacking unfortunately. I’ll just give a brief timeline of events without too much detail, to spare you all the reading. Lilia Vanrouge is a man of Fae descent, a long lived race who live in a place called ‘Briar Valley’. They live to around 800 usually! Pledged his loyalty to the Royal Family from an undisclosed age Worked his way up to the rank of General Vanrouge/General of the Right sometime before age 200. Got a letter from Night Raven’s College (NRC, prestigious Magic Academy) asking him to attend. Buried it in his things, not caring. Around 300, a War was going on between Humans and Fae. During this, the Queen and her lover (who Lilia had become very close with) both were lost, soon after their Dragon Baby’s egg had been born and would hatch within 2-3 years. Malleus (the egg) refused to hatch for 200 more years, during the war, because of,,, I’m not sure yet but. Anyways, Lilia was around 500 when Malleus finally hatched. Lilia was overcome with emotion that Malleus had finally come out to the world, because he was the one to call out to him. Malleus was raised by his grandmother and Lilia, with Lilia acting as his sort of retainer as well as a guardian figure. Lilia refers to him as his ‘ward’ and himself as Malleus’ ‘guardian’. He continued to care for Malleus and act as General until Malleus was around 160, at which point Lilia found a child, abandoned. He took this child in and raised him with the help of Malleus, for another 17 years. He took on another child as his trainee, training both his son Silver and this trainee, Sebek, to be able to fight. When Malleus, his first ward, received his own letter for NRC, Lilia dug his own out and accompanied him to the school as his guardian. Both are now third years, and soon, Sebek and Silver both joined the college, both as first years. In the recent chapters, Lilia has decided to leave the college and retire, due to his magic beginning to fade. He’s dying far sooner than a Fae should and doesn’t want his boys to have to watch him wither away. This is probably due to something he did in relation to Malleus or Silver - I’m not 100% sure since I'm not completely up to date with lore. As of my canon date for him, his first ward, Malleus, has used his magic to stop time, to put them all into a state of dreaming, to keep Lilia there longer, with him. CR AU (Optional): n/a Personality: (+) Compassionate: Lilia has a big heart, underneath his truly chaotic nature. He is a guardian and a father – a good one at that. He wants nothing more than to make sure the boys he’s raised and cared for over the years are healthy and doing what they want with their lives. He spent time gathering nutritious ingredients to cook together for Silver, to make sure he grew up healthy, even if the dishes he cooked were absolutely horrid and should never be eaten by anyone ever. Lilia also has a very interesting parenting style, attempting to prepare those he takes under his wing for the day that he won’t be around anymore. This is highlighted in his dorm card story where he ends up nursing a baby bat back to health and releasing it during the night. Lilia is a very sweet man, though he also wants to be taken seriously when it serves him. He enjoys giving very insightful advice to those around him, acting as a sort of mentor when it suits him. (-) Capricious: There is not a single word that describes Lilia Vanrouge better than Capricious. He is the very definition of impulsive and unpredictable. He’s a very playful man and takes great joy in teasing and taunting the other students at NRC. Something he does often is surprise or scare other students by hanging or floating upside down in front of them, trying to catch them off guard. With his life experience, Lilia tends to allude to things that have happened in the past, history that he knows to be true and history that he makes up, never making it clear whether he’s telling the truth or messing with the other student he’s speaking with. No one can ever be sure what it is that Lilia will do next, even with how kind and caring he can be. During one of the Halloween events, Malleus and Lilia devised a prank against the other students, including Silver and Sebek. This culminated in Lilia pretending he was possessed by a ghost and saying some cruel things to Silver that he ‘never would’, but he used those words to pretend to be possessed, despite knowing it could hurt Silver. He put the prank over his own son. Lilia is also prone to getting easily excited about new ideas, abandoning other things in favor of something that catches his interest. He will drop things that no longer seem interesting to him, moving on without a second thought. (-) Secretive: Lilia doesn’t tend to tell anyone close to him anything that’s bothering him. Not even the ward he’s been in charge of for over 150 years, the boy he raised from a little baby, or one of his closest friends at NRC. His true feelings are hidden behind a smile and brushed away without a second thought. He always keeps up his warm and cheerful attitude, never letting on that something else might be going on under the surface. Even with his life coming to an end far sooner than it should be, he keeps that a secret from his boys throughout their school life, until he decides to leave NRC altogether due to his issues with his magic. Lilia also has an extreme strength for someone his size, due to his past as a General. This is partially a secret, one that is only shown during his lab card where he beats up several students who are bullying/picking on another, taking on several far taller students all on his own. (-) Flighty: Goodbyes are not his strong suit. Neither is staying in a situation where he’s uncomfortable or that doesn’t suit him very well, or sticking with one thing for very long. Lilia can tend to be thoughtless regarding other people’s feelings with the things he does and says, changing his mind and his plans without a single thought. During the time where Cater, Kalim, and him are working on figuring out who should be their lead singer, for example, Lilia wins their competition and then immediately changes his mind, declaring that Cater should be their lead singer instead. When he told his boys that he was leaving the school and the reason for it, he didn’t take into account how they may feel, which leads to Malleus and Silver both having some intense feelings, due to the way that he goes about telling them. He decides he wants to celebrate his retirement, even though it means he won’t ever be able to see Malleus again. He doesn’t take those feelings into account, wanting to just leave without further feelings of his own getting in the way. Powers and Abilities: Note: due to his magic fading, some of these powers/magic types have become things he can’t do anymore. I’m still listing them all, just in case something happens in Duplicity that causes him to regain his abilities/magic as a whole, so that I’ll know what restrictions are needed (if any). I’ll put those he’s still capable of currently in italics. Far Cry Cradle - Lilia’s unique magic (something only he can do, regardless of if he attempts to teach others it or not) is called Far Cry Cradle. This allows him to replay the memory of an object for a short time. Specifically it has to be an object, not a person or animal. The memories he draws from it are brief, something of the most importance for the object he’s touching. Elemental Magic - In Twisted Wonderland, characters can use several variations and combinations of elemental magic: flora, fire, water, and cosmic. All students at NRC are capable of casting spells with these elements in mind. Aside from being capable of casting elemental spells, Lilia doesn’t seem to have an aptitude for one over another. These spells are more spontaneous in the way they’re used, creating something out of thin air rather than manipulating existing elements. Applied Magic - This type of magic refers to things that don’t relate to the elements, such as summoning objects or moving things using magic or even possibly unlocking locks with magic. Lilia can use this sort of magic, just as anyone else would. Teleportation - Those of Fae or Dragon descent have been shown to be able to vanish in thin air, appearing in another location with significant ease. Lilia was able to do this until Book 7, where his magic had faded enough to not allow for him to use this ability at all. He’s begun to have to walk everywhere, unable to use something he used to use all the time. I’ve still added it here in case something happens that allows him to regain it. In the case of Duplicity, it would be capped so he wouldn’t be able to teleport outside the city. Flight - Lilia, being of Fae origin, has an affinity for flight, even without using a broom like his peers at NRC. He actually struggles to use a broom, believing the device to hinder his own flight abilities. As he’s unable to teleport and it’s said he has begun to walk/run everywhere to get to where he needs to go, I think that his flight has also been something that he can’t use anymore. If he regains it, this would also be limited to not allow him to leave the city. Speaking with Animals - This is something that all NRC students are required to learn. We don’t know how well Lilia does with it, but it can be assumed he can understand animals to some extent. Alchemy and Potions - This subject is one that Lilia seems to minorly enjoy, alongside his favorite courses. This involves the creation of different potions and concoctions, as well as growing plants. He’s seen making plants grow from the remainder of others using magic during a cooking event, showing his prowess with creating further life using his magic, to grow plants from a seed in mere minutes. This depends wholly on the available materials. Enhanced Sight and Hearing - Those of Fae descent have more powerful hearing and sight, able to see and hear things from further away than humans can. One instance, he heard something from around 20m away. Musical Prowess - Lilia can play multiple instruments, picking them up easily and learning quickly when he does. He is also capable of writing lyrics and singing! His singing, he claims, is able to put an infant to sleep within seconds. This could be due to the TYPE of singing he does (it has a lot of screams and shouts that are a little bit startling to unexpecting people). Overblot - When an individual from Twisted Wonderland uses magic, it produces a negative substance called "blot", which fades with rest and proper nutrition. Magicians with a particularly high aptitude for magic have the ability to overblot if certain requirements are met: an excessive overuse of magical reserves often paired with an extreme stressor. Overblotting is a phenomenon that maxes out the magician's magical output at a deadly cost, creating a phantom of negative emotions that will sponge off of them until they die. Lilia most likely no longer has enough magical energy to use to get to the point of Overblotting, but it’s still a possibility.
